New Jersey 2016 was jam slammed filled with nonstop sand, sun & fun! So glad Olivia got to come with me!

It’s been raining here the last couple of days so this morning when the sun broke through we jumped in the car and hit the beach, but first ice cream! It’s always a tradition to visit the “à la mode” -the ice cream parlor I got my blog name from while here on the shore.
We visited à la mode a couple of nights ago. I was so happy when we arrived that the owner recognized our family and called us the “Birds of à la mode”. I totally geeked out, I am obviously their biggest fan. I named my blog à la mode because after I got engaged we celebrated over ice-cream and that very moment was one of the happiest moments in my life. I had never been so excited in my whole life.
I want all my readers to have an à la mode experience when they visit my blog. I want you to look forward to visiting my little space on the big web and hopefully get a little pep in your step so you can face whatever comes your way that day. Like what ice cream does to me, especially this particular parlor.
My life has never been the same since Dallin asked me to be a Bird 🙂
below I have shared pictures of our family here at the “à la mode” three years ago
Have a great weekend!

Yesterday we took a very needed “sun break day”. After spending weeks in the sun we decided to do “kids camp” the entire way to the Cherry Hill Mall, which is about an hour and 20 min. car ride from us. These games got us in the back to school shopping spirit.
*kids camp- preschool type activities, books, counting, going over letters and shapes.
We ran into a good friend of mine from college. She told us that she was able to get into the new Philadelphia temple on a tour so we decided right then and there we would go to the PA Temple after we were done shopping.
Olivia and Chelsea took the kids on the other side of the mall to get key chains for their backpacks as I sat and nursed Briton outside of Banana Republic. All of a sudden sirens and a women’s voice came over the intercom to have everyone evacuate the building, to not use elevators and go to their nearest exit: code red!
I was in a panic as I saw everyone start running to the nearest exits, there are restaurants in the middle of the mall hallways and people just got up and left in a panic. All the stores went into lockdown mode, and the screams were horrific. Everyone kept trying to shuttle me outside, but I kept pushing back trying to make my way towards Clair’s to see if my kids were anywhere in site.
The mall became desolate and the sirens kept going off. I was terrified to say the least. I finally understood Nemo’s mom when the baracooda eyeballed her eggs and she tried getting in the way and ended up dying.
I made a snapchat of the scene. I was crying and swearing somewhat, I wanted to my kids to know if worse came to worse that I was looking for them. And also my nieces who had the kids phones weren’t getting my calls. Why do malls have the worst cell service?
I asked what code red meant and a store clerk told me that it happened a couple months ago when there was a bomb threat or it could be for a potential shooting. Having been in a mall when a bomb has gone off when I worked in the Galleria Mall in Sacramento I knew this sorta thing was not far fetched along with all the scary things happening in the media.
The alarms ceased it turned out to be a false alarm thankfully and I was reunited with my kids. The girls had taken them outside until the coast was clear. I was a wet mess and couldn’t stop shaking and vowed I was an online only shopper from now on.
I have to be honest I also cancelled our D.C. trip. I am terrified of crowds nows. And D.C. with all the election stuff and cop shootings, is probably the last place I want to take my family at this time. I hate that I have to live in fear and think this way, but it’s a real feeling.
We ended our day at the Philadelphia Temple. It was the perfect ending to our day. We weren’t allowed to tour it, which is fine, Elder Richards was there touring while we were there. The temple is surrounded by the biggest tallest buildings, it’s so cool as you enter the city and get off the bridge to have Angel Moroni welcome you into the city.
I felt so much needed peace and comfort as we walked the grounds together as a family. I am so excited to come back and visit when it is dedicated.
Today is going to be a good day, and I apologize for the unpleasant story. It is one I want to document to reflect on and to remember to never take my family, freedom and safety for granted.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Above I have shared some pics of what we have been busy doing lately. It has been full time sun and fun.
Tomorrow we are hitting up the Nordstrom Sale. We are taking a “sun break” and hitting up the mall. I always plan our NJ trip around the Nordstrom Sale because the Nordstrom in Jersey is a lot better than the ones by me and plus there is no sales tax on clothes here. So I am saving an additional 8% on my purchases, double win 🙂
mint green nikes (nordstrom sale) / camel peep toe bootie (nordstrom sale) / faux leather moto jacket (nordstrom sale) / ag ripped jeans (nordstrom sale) / mac makeup set (nordstrom sale) / tie up ballet flats (nordstrom sale) / camel bootie (nordstrom sale) / tie dye cardigan (nordstrom sale) / ankle skinny jeans (nordstrom sale) / slate hunter boots (nordstrom sale) / plaid tunic (nordstrom sale) / burberry brit jacket (nordstrom sale) / buffalo plaid red shirt (nordstrom sale) / shirt dress (nordstrom sale) hudson black skinny jeans (nordstrom sale)
Today marks exactly our one last week mark at being here at the Jersey shore. I have full intentions of jamming everyday full of fun & sun. For those who asked my black scalloped swimsuit is from (morning lavender)
Here are some other black scalloped swimsuits from different stores

I am the worst at buying things on sale. I love shopping because of a sale, but do not necessarily buy the things that are on sale. I am excited to start looking for clothes, I feel like I haven’t gone shopping or actually gotten ready in so long. I can’t wait to hit up the sale next week. I always love shopping in NJ because there is no tax on clothes:) Have a great weekend everyone and happy shopping 🙂
I am also very excited to go back to school shopping at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale with my little girl. Tonight we had some fun picking out what she would love to get…I love how excited she got seeing all things princess and pink.
