Here’s to 6 years and a lifetime of Anniversaries. Today is a fun one for me I got to sit back and turn the keyboard to my husband I wanted to have him tell me his side of our love story. Thanks babe in advance for doing this for me, I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
My Cinderella – A love story as told by the supposed prince…
So… when I first saw Shannon at the pool, I loved her beautiful big curly blonde hair. I was instantly attracted to her. I was very curious to find out who this girl was.
Well, she ended up leaving the pool pretty early that day and we never had a chance to talk. However, later that evening I attended a big block party in downtown SLC, and all of Shannon’s same friends that were at the pool were also at this block party. It was early in the night and I was speaking with Nadia (a very close friend of Shannon’s) and as I was speaking to her, Shannon came right up and jumped in our conversation. I barely understood what she was saying; I was just mesmerized by her gorgeous curly hair. The first thing she said was “were you at the pool today” I immediately said “yes” but played a little coy like I wasn’t sure if I saw her or knew exactly what she was talking about. She then proceeded to ask me a series of questions. “Were you wearing, green shorts?” “Were they shorter green shorts?” Were you wearing a chain around your neck at the pool” I answered yes to each more detailed question. Then she must have realized she was coming across a little too observant, she abruptly said “oh I saw you” as if it was just a casual glance, while being caught noticing my every detail.
Our conversation ended quickly and we maybe chit-chatted a few seconds after that. As the night progressed I kept seeing her around and loved how outgoing and fun she seemed at the party. I knew I wanted to get her number before I left. Just the opportunity never seemed right. Finally towards the end of the evening, (after about 10 guys got her number) I walked up to her and said “hey I want to get your number and call you.” She honestly hesitated like she had better things to do, so I said “look, I’ll give you a call, we’ll go to lunch and if its not fun, I promise you, you’ll never hear from me again (I didn’t want her to think she was going to have to “deal with me” chasing her around when she had no interest)
Besides her obvious good looks, I always just loved Shannon’s outgoing and positive outlook on life. I knew she had dealt with some hard things in her life and when I met her she was working full time, trying out for the Jazz, at BYU on scholarship and she made it all seem so easy for her.
Through out our year of dating I made her do stuff no girl should have to do. I took her skiing for her first time in a blizzard, camping in the snow and almost freezing to death, rafting in Idaho in Class IV rapids, horse back riding in Wyoming with very untrained horses, a near drowning while tubing in Lake Powell, climbing and getting lost on the highest mountain in Utah and many other activities she only did bc she wanted to be around me, doing whatever I was doing.
She passed every test I had dreamed up in my crazy single 31yr old head. Such as “the elevator test”. I for some reason always found it attractive when a girl talks to random strangers in Elevators. Not many do that, except the fun and adventurous ones. Shannon was a nut. She always struck up conversations with everyone in elevators, or would make jokes to complete strangers every time we were in the Elevator. Needless to say she passed that test with flying colors. I just knew I wanted to be around this fun girl for the rest of my life.
I never imagined marrying a girl much younger than I was, however our compatibility was uncanny and the more I was with her, the more I enjoyed being around her. Now that’s not to say we haven’t had our ups and downs through the years, however I knew I wanted to be with her always, and I still feel this way today!
I often reflect back to the first time I ever picked you up for a date you were stunning & also carrying a frog, that sure enough got lost in my car. Just as you think of me being your Prince in your Cinderella version of our love story, in my version you were always the Princess that turned this “frog/bachelor” into a Prince.
