This post is sponsored by Target, inspired by summer
My goal this swim season is to embrace every moment of sun that I possibly can. I love swimming, and so do my kids. I don’t want to be insecure of what I look like in a swimsuit so that I miss out on experiences with my children.
I love my body, is that okay to say. I know I have been blessed, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have insecurities like everyone else.
It has taken me 27 years to appreciate, like and accept that I have curly hair – like really curly wild hair – and just recently I have started to like it.
I have major scoliosis (I have an “S” in my spine), and one of my breastplates is significantly more forward then the other, causing me to be lopsided. I got an augmentation to correct it, but, lucky for me, I only am also only able to nurse on one side. Causing yet again unevenness.
I am not going to stop nursing my baby because of how I look: I was pregnant for 9 months – a little lopsidedness is nothing after that 🙂
But what I am going to do is love myself and have fun with my children. I will avoid all the lame excuses and just shop for my body type. I love the prices and styles at Target. I also do my grocery shopping there so it makes it very convenient for me. Don’t visit Target frequently? No problem! Target has free shipping and free returns so you can try on as many swimsuits as you would like and return what doesn’t work.
How to pick the perfect suit. I personally choose swimwear that flatters my body and reduces attention to the chest, that is my problem area. I don’t like to outline them or wear too revealing of suits. My favorite style is bandeau one pieces. I try not to stere too far away from them. If your problem area is your stomach, I recommend wearing a one piece. If your problem area are your thighs or bottom I recommend a tankini paired with a short or a skirt. If you need additional help with this please email me or comment below.
So ask yourself, what has held you back from not wanting to swim and has gotten in the way and lead you to miss out on summer activities and soaking up the sun with friends and family?
I would love to help all of you love yourself and have the best memorial summer yet. I am going to encourage you to take the #NOFOMO pledge with me get a suit that flatters you and share a pic with me using the #NOFOMO on instagram.

Omg you are so sweet. Thank you for making my day!
Rachel you are so sweet! Thank you! I too cannot wait for summer 🙂 My home is covered in snow currently lol
Kelsey thanks for your suggestion I will totally have to shoot some tankini looks:)
I thought you had the augmentation because you nursed Hudson primarily on one side? I’m not familiar with nursing “rules” after an augmentation, but can you not nurse because of the implant? SOrry if I’m getting too personal!
Kimberly I always have been uneven, I knew about my breastplates were turned ever since I was middle school when I found out I had severe scoliosis and got x-rayd. But I have never been able to nurse on my right side, even when I didn’t have implants. I have implants on both sides they(the implants) are drastically different in size. I can still nurse from my left all the same. No difference-although I get mastitis more? I got procedure done bc after I nursed hudson I lost weight and literally only had one breast, that’s not an exaggeration. I graduated as a Health teacher, after what teenagers threw at me at a daily basis nothing is “too personal” lol
I love this everything about this post.
when i was a teenager, i was pretty skinny, i always wore bikinis. as i’ve gotten older, i have gotten heavier. i don’t feel comfortable with my stomach showing anymore. i spent years avoiding swimming in the summer because i couldn’t ever find a swimsuit i liked. my chest is small, so one piece suits make me look like a child, and i’ve always viewed tankinis as looking matronly.
i love that high waisted swim bottoms have become fashionable. i found some that offer all the coverage that i want and make me feel fashionable instead of like i’m covering up. i can pair them with any top and feel comfortable to swim and hang out with my friends and family without constantly worrying about how i look.
i am sharing this to share another option that has set me free in the summer. Thank you for your post.
Thanks so much for sharing. Our bodies are beautifully “flawed” you can look at a person and think they are perfect and then find out they have a million insecurities. I too love highwaisted swimsuits 🙂 Thanks again for sharing your story and I hope you have a wonderful summer!
